ROTC Middle School (Reaching Out to the Community – Gr. 6-8)
This event engages our children and youth in community outreach. In the summer for one week, each day we travel together to various sites that have included Heart to Heart, Kansas City Community Kitchen, St. Paul’s Food Pantry, Operation Breakthrough, Harvesters, Special Olympics, and the Ronald McDonald House. We eat sack lunches at mid-day and play in the afternoon at one of the city’s fun spots like putt-putt golf, bowling, pool parties, the zoo, movies, moon marble factory, and more. We have an afternoon program when we return to the church and have a special celebration on Friday for all the hard work during the week. In winter, we have a one-day ROTC day of service when schools are on break.
ROTC High School (Reaching Out to the Community – Gr. 9-12)
Over the course of one week each summer, our high school students prepare and deliver a “mobile Vacation Bible Camp” to the children of Independence, Kansas, in collaboration with the people of Trinity Episcopal Church in that community. Our youth experience the joys of sharing God’s love and mentorship while learning about the realities of rural poverty in Kansas.
Mission Trip
A week-long summer Mission Trip is planned each summer by St. Thomas youth to serve those in need.
Recently, we have traveled to Chicago to learn about immigration ministries and Austin to learn about different models of addressing homelessness.
